The prophet Elijah went through a true gambit of emotions and actions in the 17th and 18th chapter of 1 Kings. Take time to go and read the 17th and 18th chapter and answer the following questions.
- What challenges did Elijah face in the beginning of the chapters?
- Do you think the challenge of feeling alone was as difficult as facing the prophets of Baal?
- How did God help prepare Elijah for such a unsurmountable task and restore him from his fear of Ahab?
Elijah had a time of stillness and a time away from the masses and conflict. It was during this time the man of God reconnected stronger than ever with God. We have the same opportunity now through this mandiatory time away to connect and be restored to a whole new level over the next few weeks.
It was only after this time in seclusion and refocusing Elijah was called to fight for the Lord and take on Baal and king Ahab. As we read through chapter 18 we see Elijah defeat the prophets of Baal and the chapter finishes with another moment of quiet before the proverbial storm. After the enormous victory is when Elijah goes and prays for the rain and God answers the way only God would. Through a large amount of faith and the tiniest cloud Gods glory and power is shown once again.
Take time this week to build your connection because the days are not far from us when we will be called once again into action. When the time comes for us to face todays Ahabs and or the time for us to put our prayer life into motion and look for those simple clouds that big relief to the suffering and hurting around us.
