Hear See and Speak No Evil
Today David gave a lesson for us to think about what we hear, What we say and what we look at and its effects on our faith weather for the good or evil.
When you look at the three figures that represent the evils which one represents the biggest challenge for you? Speaking No Evil? Hearing No Evil, or Seeing no evil?
Which of these three tend to be a stumbling block for you?
See No Evil
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:22-23
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
There is an old phrase “the eyes are the window to your soul” if that is the case what we decide to view with our eyes can have a drastic impact on our soul.
What are potential struggles we face when we allow evil in through our eyes? What are excuses people give for letting down their guard and viewing things which can harm the soul?
Hebrews 12 :2 tells us what we should fix our eyes on.
2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hear No Evil
2 Timothy 2:16-17 tells us to
Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene.
Gossip can be a plague in the church. What can we do individually to stop this harmful practice? How can you tell when you are becoming a recipient of gossip? How do you stop such gossip from being told to you and spreading in the church?
Speak No Evil
Ephesians 5:3-7 tells us:
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
According to scriptures we just read, the words we speak make a difference in who we are and who God calls for us to be. Paul in this scripture mentions Sexual immorality, impurity and greed in the same passage scripture, how does that effect how you look at what comes out of your mouth?
In James 1:26 it tells us
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.
1 Peter 3:10 also tells us:
For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.
It is when we make a conscious effort to protect our eyes from leading us down the wrong path and compromising our soul, Decide we no longer want to be a willing recipient of gossip and unwholesome words spoken to us, and to keep ourselves from using our speech to hurt others that truly can grow stronger as individual christians and the church becomes more and more healthy.
Take time for prayers to have God give each of us the strength to better control our these three actions spoken of today.
