Life Group Lesson
This morning in service we were able to see the effects of generations of followers of God when the put their faith and trust in Him. It was through the faith of Moses parents and sister that his life was spared and history was made. Through their trust and faith in God without understanding of what the future held, lives were changed.
What are some things you have no problem putting your trust/faith in? (Gravity, Sun, The Seasons, etc.) What is it about those things that deems them worthy to trust in?
What do you think makes it hard for people to trust and put their faith in God?
Read the following
Psalm 9:10 Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 13:5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Have you ever thought about the alternative to putting your faith and trust in something other than God? What would that look like?
Ultimately we must make a choice on who and what we put our faith in. It seems we have 3 options:
- Trust God: Scriptures tell us God is benevolent, omniscient, omnipotent, the creator of all things, who has sent His son to restore humanity to peace, joy, and bring us hope for our future. God who has control of all things and values us individually enough to sacrifice His son for reestablish our broken relationship with Him. That through this sacrifice we are given the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you
trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the
Holy Spirit.
- Trust Fate: This choice allows many to live with less daily stress. A Lion King kind of attitude (Hakuna matta). however this does have its limitations. It does not provide much hope in the dark times of life. For example fate never guarantees that there is meaning or purpose for anything going on in your life. It also gives no guarantee that pain will ever end or life will get any better than it is right now.
- Trust Yourself: This is the worst of the choices because it assumes you have the power to change the unchangeable. We have no control over the weather, other peoples decisions, or your past, present or honestly your future. We may believe we can put things in motion to change our surroundings but this to is conditional that our surroundings and the people in them cooperate.
Proverbs 28:26 Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who
walk in wisdom are kept safe.
How would you describe people who put their trust and faith in God verses those who choose a different path?
What are some ways we can build up our trust and faith in the Father?
What do you see is the biggest benefit of us growing our faith?
Who is a person you have seen putting this into action? Describe the quality of life you see them having.
As you finish up be sure to take prayer requests and include in the prayer asking for stronger faith and a deeper ability to trust in God.
