Open The Eyes of Our Hearts
One of the songs we sing has the phrase “Open the eyes of my heart Lord”. As we looked into Exodus today we saw the results of having your heart hardened. Pharaoh trusted more on his abilities and those around him than to see acknowledge the power of God.
All to often we rely on things other than God and his mighty hand. What are some of the things the world puts its faith and trust in other than God? What are the possible pitfalls when people do?
Matthew 13:13 Jesus tells his disciples “ This is why I speak to them in parables:”Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.”
The apostle Paul says in Ephesians 1:18-19 “ I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. “
Do you think everyone can understand the message of God and the hope which we have been “called” to? Are there limitations on peoples understanding? and how does the heart come into play with these limitations?
Just as Pharaoh had a hardened heart Paul speaks of a group of gentiles in the same verbiage in Ephesians 4.
Ephesians 4:17-18 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.
What are signs and symptoms of a hardened heart?
Is there a solution to a hardened heart?
What can we do to protect ourselves from having a hardened heart?
Read 2 Corinthians 4:6 discuss and pray for soft hearts. –
6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
