Read Luke 19:1-11
The sermon goes over the story of Zacchaeus and his desire to see Jesus and how Jesus shows him value by calling him by name. There is unmeasurable value in knowing someones name. When we use peoples names we show them value, we give them recognition, and show them we have moved them into our personal world.
When was a time that someone called you by name that you didn’t think who you were? How did that make you feel?
After Jesus called Zacchaeeus by name and said he was going to his house how do you think it made him feel? Do you think he wondered if Jesus really knew who he was and what he had done?
Only after a personal relationship starting with knowing a name does Zacchaeus find salvation and a life is changed. We have been called to be the light of the world and to love our neighbors/ the people we interact with. We begin this loving process by knowing a name/putting value in them.
Who will you value this week? Make a verbal commitment to the group of a specific person you will find out the name of then remember the name and use it every time you cross paths. Remember that your sharing the gospel starts by sharing your world and that begins with using a name.
