Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
What are some things the world today would we consider excellent or praiseworthy?
What is it about those things that make them excellent or praiseworthy?
Read John Acts 16:22-26
22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.
Why are we told to focus and think about these things and not others? How can this thought process improve your spiritual relationship with God, your relationship with other believers, with the lost?
What things would the world consider excellent or praiseworthy in this situation?
What do you think Paul and Silas thought was praiseworthy enough to sing and pray about in their situation?
Do you think our circumstances should be the determining factor of our praise?
Looking back now at Philippians 4:8, as a whole, how big of an influence in our happiness and strength of our faith does this mindset and call for action have? How can this verse help us in keeping “Our Focus” on “His Mission”?
